Top strategies that have helped my business grow

When I opened my business in Providence, Rhode Island in 2013 I had been working in Boston as an esthetician for 10 years. I was starting from scratch in Providence, building a business from the ground up. I didn’t know much about business, I didn’t have a mentor besides getting advice from some business owner friends, and I didn’t have a large amount of capital. I learned some hard lessons through experience, took classes, signed on with a mentor, and managed to get financial support that I would pay back as loans. Eventually I went on to get an official degree in business as my hunger for knowledge continued to grow.

Over the course of 10 years in business including being closed for 5 months during the pandemic, our revenue per year has grown from 0 to half a million, working as the CEO of my company instead of the full time technician.

Here are some of the top strategies that have helped my business grow that could help you too.

Work more ON your business instead of IN it.

I listed this first because if you are not factoring this into your schedule, you will not have time to do any of the additional following activities. Many business owners open a business and continue to work as the “technician”. As much as I love doing esthetics, I had to come to the realization that I am now the CEO of my company and if the CEO is not working on role specific tasks daily, the business will suffer.

Marketing + PR

Creating a strategic marketing plan, getting involved in the community, networking with other businesses, attending events that are attractive to your target client, and getting press coverage to bring awareness to your business will help the business’s reputation and clientele grow.

Quality Control

Creating systems to provide consistent quality in your services and products will ensure guests will return to your business and tell all their friends how much they loved it and how much value they received. Providing attention to detail and creating personal connections with guests is a big part of providing quality. Show guests how much you really care-handwritten cards and gifts are some our favorite ways to show our gratitude.

Get Support

It can feel quite lonely at times as an entrepreneur and having a good support system is key to mental, emotional and business health. Finding a business advisor or mentor, joining a mastermind group, or even various Facebook groups can offer support and guidance.

Keep Learning

Educating myself through classes, programs, podcasts, and books on business, health, and skin has helped me stay up to date, solve problems and develop more confidence.

Focus On Team

If you want to grow your business you will need a team. Focusing on culture, training and professional development, team building, performance, and job satisfaction/ happiness and having authentic personal connections will be a huge part of your business’s success.

Branding

Consistent branding that appeals to your target client creates trust by giving your business a personality, vibe, and experience that your guests can rely on.

Focus On Your Passion

I don’t know about you, but I can not sell anything that I myself am not passionate about. It gives me the fuel and motivation to truly want to be of service by getting in front of the guest who wants and needs what we are offering so that we can make a difference in their lives.
